ASME International's HPVC is a long-standing tradition that began in 1989. The challenge provides an opportunity to advance designs in sustainable transportation as well as improve transportation capabilities in third world countries. In recent years the competition has taken on an additional "green-theme" as we attempt to reduce the levels of carbon monoxide emissions from many transportation vehicles. It also provides an opportunity for students worldwide to share their knowledge of design and fabrication skills at regional competitions on a yearly basis. These competitions consist of several components including a design report, design competition, utility class vehicle races, and speed class vehicle races. The utility class focuses on vehicles designed for practicality, performance, and reliability, while the speed class is strictly for vehicles designed for speed and reliability.

Our charge is to create a tandem racing craft that will compete in the speed category at the 2011 ASME HPVC East. The HPVC Capstone Team will design and fabricate the vehicle to comply with all ASME requirements and feature unique design aspects.
