A primary issue with the Joseph City Wash is that it is heavily affected by sediment build up that is carried down from the watershed in the Navajo Nation. This excess sedimentation causes issues with the current infrastructure as this blocks the underpasses from the highway and the BNSF railroad in the Joseph City area. Joseph City doesn’t have the current stormwater management practices to handle this mass amount of sediment build up.
Aguatierra Engineering is working with the Navajo County to develop a solution for this wash to protect residents from future flooding events.
