Design Testing
SPLP Testing
EPA Method 1312: Synthetic Precipitation Leaching Procedure (SPLP) uses nitric and sulfuric acid as the extraction solutions. Producing a leachate which will be followed by an analysis that will determine if the solidification materials were able to stabilize the tailings of both Magma and Pilgrim Mines.
Compressibility Testing
Strength testing of solidified materials is performed by conducting a compressibility test. The compressibility test measures the pressure it takes for the material to fail. The standard compressive strength required for solidified wastes sent to a landfill is 0.35 MPa or 50 PSI [3] [22]. This is strong enough to withstand human weight on it and other small forces, but not to construct buildings using it as a foundation or other industrial purposes.
