Isaac Shaffer

Associate Director for Undergraduate Programs and Lecturer at Northern Arizona University

Experience

Isaac Newton Shaffer is an associate director for undergraduate programs and lecturer at the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems at Northern Arizona University. He is also a PhD graduate student in SICCS, where he developed and operated genomics software to assist microbial researchers in the exploration of our diverse bacterial world. As a lecturer he has taught several undergraduate courses including Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Intro to Statistics, Intro to Programming (Lab), and CS Capstone — a comprehensive, real-world project management and code development course.

Research Focus

Isaac's research focuses on developing genomics software to support microbial research, applying statistical methods and computational techniques to advance understanding in microbiology.

Education

Isaac holds a M.S. in Statistics from Northern Arizona University, completed in 2018. He also earned a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Northern Arizona University in 2008, with coursework in electrical engineering and computer science.

Professional Achievements

Isaac was awarded the Raytheon Physics Scholarship during his undergraduate studies. He also participated in two NASA Space Grant funded undergraduate research projects, focusing on astronaut radiation simulation during a Mars mission and theoretical quantum mechanics.
