Dr. Leszek Pawlowicz is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Northern Arizona University. His general area of interest is the application of digital technologies to problems in archaeology, concentrating on the US Southwest and Belize. Recent projects include creating "virtual tours" of archaeological sites at Walnut Canyon and Tonto National Monuments; advanced visualization of 3D surfaces (rock art panels, Mayan stelae, Digital Elevation Models); creation of an award-winning hardware system for advanced archaeological artifact photography; applications of deep learning / artificial intelligence to the classification and characterization of prehistoric decorated ceramics.
