The purpose of the project is to provide designs to improve parking at the Desert Research and Learning Center located at Saguaro National Park. The Parking needs to be adequate for researchers and visitors. A multitude of visitors and workers use the current gravel road and parking lot. In the summer months, fire staff have meetings that frequently fill up the parking lot. The primary objective of the project is to increase the parking capacity while keeping visitors safe. A secondary objective includes expansion or rerouting for the narrow paths leading from East Broadway Blvd. to the research center. The research center serves as a research location for students around the U.S. and from other countries as well. The research learning center teaches students and visitors sustainable practices to preserve the National Forest.

The general location of the project site is approximately 15 miles East of Tucson, Arizona.
