Structural Revision A
Key Points:
1. First of our designs
to incorporate an automated steering latch mechanism.
2. This structural design
is shown with a tubular solenoid actuator, which in power off
mode locks the arm into place. When power is on, the solenoid
disengages allowing the drive motor to drive the wheel about the
steering axis. Once the wheel is in the desired position, the
solenoids may be powered down to allow the rover to begin its
motion.
3. Revision A included
a hollow shaft down the leg of the structure to facilitate steering
and add structural strength. In addition, the hollow shaft enables
easier internal cable routing to the drive motors.
4. This design is a compromise
between strength and reduced frontal profile.
