OpenDSS
OpenDSS is an open source distribution system modeling and analysis tool that is optimized specifically for simulating photovoltaic systems. Our team used this software to model the current distribution system of our assigned district as well as all our proposed PV systems and battery storage subsystem in order to calculate system losses, power and bus flow, phase mathing, and much more. For more information, feel free to visit the Electric Power Research Institute website.
ReOPT Lite
Our team used ReOPT Lite for all our battery optimization needs. This software developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is used for all kinds of renewable enegy sources, and helps analyze the financial viability of a renewable energy system. For the purposes of our project, we compared different brands and types of batteries to produce an estimated cost of the storage system given the optimal sizing of the system. For more information on ReOPT Lite, please visit the NREL website.
