Design Process

System Design and Schematic Capture

The system design has been separated into three major parts. This was done to make design easier and to allow for efficient testing of the circuit. The fist section is the power circuit. This section is responsible for powering the entire system. The second section is the PWM IC and all components need for operation. The last section is the MOSFET drivers and MOSFETs. Each section can be seen in the figure below of the system schematic. Microsoft Visio was used for schematic capture. Data sheets and application notes gave a great deal of help in designing parts of the schematic around the various devices. With the teams knowledge of circuit design and the assistance of Bill Schlanger of Electric Blue Motors, the final design shown below was created. This was another milestone for the team as they could now begin the prototype phase of the design.
