Getting Closer

April 25th, 2017

Over the past week we began finishing up our team website and amking sure that the formatting was correct because we were having issues with the navigation bar showing up in different ways for different browsers. We also began discussing how we were going to make improvements from our last design review and implement them for our UGRADS presentation on the 28th. We also began working on improving the GUI to make it dynamically extensible and we got our dictionaries implemented too.

This week is really focused on getting ready for the UGRADS presentation on the 28th and we will be in contact with our mentor to see what else he wants from our program at this point.

UGRADS Poster

April 18th, 2017

We had our second design review presentation and we did a very good job on it this time. We had very little complaints but from those we did learn where we can improve. Also during this last week we worked a lot on our UGRADS poster and we presented a draft of it to our mentor who then gave us some small changes we needed to do to make the poster great. Other than that we continued our implementation and we seem to be getting really close to getting everything done for it.

We plan on continuing our implementation further but we are going to shift our focus to our UGRADS poster because we need to have it submitted for printing by the 21st so that is going to be

Design Review Presentation #3 (#2 for Us)

April 11th, 2017

This last week we spent a lof of time working on our PowerPoint presentation for our design review presentation that is going to be on the 13th of this week. We made the slide count smaller and made the whole presentation a lot less wordy in general. We added in some new and improved graphics to help convey information better and we improved how we present the material as speakers. We didn't work too much on implementation but that was to make sure we had vastly improved our presentation from the first go around.

This week we are going to be putting a lot of focus into our design review presentation so there is probably not going to be much more improvement in our program implementation until our presentation on Thursday is over. Once the presentation is over we will also begin working on our UGRADS poster so we can have that finsihed by the 21st.

Implementation and Design Review Prep

April 4th, 2017

Over this previous week we continued our implementation while beginning on improving our presentation for the design review. For the presentation we first began by condensing down the number of slides because one of the biggest complaints we got was that we had too many slides. Other than that it was mainly minor textual changes as well as modifying some of our graphics as well. As for implementation we began testing what we had and for the most part the testing worked with the current progress of the program.

We plan on presenting our new changes for our design review to our mentor and continuing the implementation of our program too.

Software Testing Document and Implementation

March 28th, 2017

In this last week we continued working on our project in several ways. The docx module was being worked on and we also worked on the software testing document. We were also making progress on the overall functionality of our program with one of the main things being that we were able to open up the docx file extract the XML markup from it. We were able to finish the software testing document and we turned it in to our mentor today.

From here we look to continue our implementation of our program and begin working on our presentation for design review #3.

Spring Break

March 21th, 2017

Spring Break

From here we plan on continuing our implementation of the program and we also plan on working on our technical documents as well.

Design Review Presentation

March 14th, 2017

Thie last week was a big week for us because we got to present our first design review presentation. We did a pretty good job but we did have a few issues but overall it was not too bad for our first one. We took all of the feedback we gained from both the other groups and the mentors and they are going to be kept in mind for our next design review. We didn't work on too much implementation because we were mainly foused on our presentation.

This week is Spring Break so we don't have too much planned for work with this project. We are tking this time to actually take a break from it and come back next week fresh and ready to continue.

Finished Rough Draft and Increased Communication

March 7th, 2017

This week was productive for the design document because we completed the rough draft and gave it to our mentor to receive feedback and we turned it on Bblearn as well. We got some tips to improve our design document which will be used to produce our final document. Furthermore we worked finished a basic prototype of our GUI with mainly just the looks of it with no real runctionality yet. Also as a group we came together on an app called "Discord" where we can communicate online together through voice chat, which helped increase communication between all of us. We also began working on our PowerPoint presentation for the design review presentation coming up.

This week we are going to mainly focus on preparing our presentation for the design review. We are going to completely put together our PowerPoint and practice for the review on the 9th.

Implementation and Continued Work of Rough Draft

February 28th, 2017

This week consisted of a lot of work being put into the design document but we also did work on some parts of implementation. The BibTeX parser was being worked on as well as we started implementing a prototype of the GUI. Furthermore we began to organize which classes and modules we were going to be working with during the rest of our implementation. For the design document we worked on including the gantt chart and we continued on improving our abstract.

For the week we plan to continue working on our design document and hopefully get the rough draft submitted and then receive feedback to improve for the final draft. Also we plan on continuing our implementation as well.

Rough Drafts and the Abstract

February 21st, 2017

During the last week we focused a lot on the rough draft of the design document and we worked to get our abstract perfected. We were making many changes here and there throughout the week and we got feedback from our mentor on how he wanted us to improve both the abstract and the document as well.

In the upcoming week we will continue to work on our design document while still working on several other components of our implementation as well. The focus will still be more on the document but we are going to try to not make it our only priority.

Project Implementation

February 14th, 2017

This week we demoed functionalities of the project to our mentor. Among other things we demoed BibTeX parsing capabilities, and Microsoft Word Document manipulation. We also demonstrated our intended citation configuration file design. Our mentor was satisfied with our progress and is looking forward to future improvements.

For the coming week we will be halting the program implementation phase to focus on our design document assignment that is due. We will also be working on our design review presentation and so programming will be put-off until two weeks from today.

Getting Started

February 8th, 2017

Over the course of the past weekend we test templating methods for substitutions on citations within a Word document. Preliminary testing has shown that there are special considerations to be had when manipulating XML files in the Open Office format. Resources online suggest regular expressions to handle most of the issues, but further testing will be required. Templating is quite possibly the most involved portion of the project and so we need to be careful and ensure that all possibilities are considered.

Other than the templating progress, there is little to no updates. We should note that we are also currently working on registering for the UGRADS event, but this task is fairly trivial.

Project Formalization

January 31st, 2017

This week marks the first official week of our project development. The previous week was solely an introduction to the project, our team, mentor and the work load that will be expected to be completed throughout the semester. We got our feet wet last week and this week we're diving in head first.

We met with our mentor today and assigned a formal defintition to the project. We compiled a comprehensive list of requirements for the final release and are now prepared to enter the design and development phase of the project. We have planned for a release of our design document next week, or the following week.

Team Meet and Greet

January 24th, 2017

Today the team has met for the first time. We discussed the topic of the capstone project with our mentor, Dr. James Palmer. We delegated the leadership position to Charles Duso; he will act as the intermediary between our mentor and the group. We exchanged contact information, learned about each other, and talked about the scope of our work for the semester. Look for more detailed and structured information as the semester progresses.
