Matrix
Decision Matrix
The design matrix table concluded that alternative 1 would be more suitable to implement due to the ease of excavation that does not require the digging of multiple channels and two culverts of alternative 2. The installation would be similar in both alternatives. However, alternative 1 only requires installing one culvert, which scores better in the matrix. The material will also be similar in both cases, but much like installation, this only applies to one culvert in alternative 1 which is the chosen alternative here.
The design matrix table shows the decision criteria that is used to determine the alternative selection. The criteria considered scores the alternative based on a 1-3 system (1 lowest – 3 Highest score), which allows for an easy and straightforward comparison of each alternative. The categories of comparison consist of excavation cost, material cost, and installation cost of each culvert per alternative.
