Project Information
Project Background
The Olivette Mine operated from 1880-1920 and was used to mine lead, silver, zinc, copper, and gold. The most abundant minerals there, however, were lead, silver and zinc, at concentrations of 5%, 0.03%, and 1%, respectively. Mining occurred underground at a depth of about 300 feet. The milling process left multiple tailing piles throughout the site. Since the closure of the mine in 1920, no remediation efforts have been made at this site. The site is managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Project Constraints
The primary constraints to the project are accessible land and sampling media. The investigation will be limited to the land owned by the BLM and will not determine contamination on nearby private property. Only soil sampling will occur; the surrounding air and water at the site will not be tested.
