Project Description
In accordance with the rules set by the Department of Energy for the 2024 Collegiate Wind Competition, Northern Arizona University WindJax Team pursues success in 4 competitions with two sub teams against 31 other Universities. The first two competitions include designing and testing a scale wind turbine to perform tasks such as generate a predictable power curve, safely decelerate in uncontrollable situations, and allow for speedy and safe assembly, among other requirements. The third competition involves analyzing site data and preparing an in depth proposal for a hypothetical offshore wind power plant following the steps that would be required for a real proposal. The final competition, which lies outside the realm of capstone, connects both sub teams to conduct community outreach to help instill passion for wind energy and combat misconceptions about renewable energy in the community. The WindJax team requires collaboration between different disciplines within engineering to succeed in these tasks.
