Experimental Setup for Losses in Pipes and Fittings
Currently Mechanical Engineering students a requireed to take Me 495 - Experimental Thermal Sciences. As part of this class, students preform an experiement to determine the enegery loss, also known as head loss, for a fluid as it travels through a system of pipes and fittings as shown to the right. The students use flow rate sensors and pressure sensors to determine the head loss in the fluid as it flows through the system. The current system has many problems so Dr. Ciocanel comissioned a capstone project to execute a complete redesign of the system and the experiment.
