CWC 2016 Tunnel Team

Meet the Team

The Colligate Wind Competition Tunnel Team is composed of students with global roots and a wide variety of experience. The faculty advisors for the project ensure that proper engineering techniques, organization, and safety are considered in project execution.

Northern Arizona University's Collegiate Wind Competition team for 2016 is composed of three sub-teams, the Deployment Team, Tunnel Team A, and Tunnel Team B.

David Willy is the primary faculty advisor for the NAU CWC 16 team. He has previous professional experience in renewable energy. He plays a valuable role in assisting team members in all aspects of the project.

Karin Wadsack is the Sustainable Energy Solutions Project Director of Northern Arizona University. She has more than ten years experience in renewable energy.

Randon Allen is a senior in electrical engineering at NAU. He and his family have lived in Flagstaff for 6 years. Randon primarily focuses on the generator with regard to the CWC 2016 project. He has 6 years of experience in renewable energy design and installation.

Jessica Bauer

Jessica Bauer is a senior in the mechanical engineering program at NAU. She has lived in Flagstaff for the past 13 years, and attended NAU from Fall 2003 to Fall 2004, Coconino Community College from Spring 2012 to Fall 2012, and NAU again from Spring 2013 to Spring 2016. Her main area of expertise for the CWC 2016 project is the aerodynamic design of the rotor and blades.

Jeremy Cook is a senior mechanical engineering student at NAU, he is a transfer student from Coconino Community College, where he received an Associates of Sciences in the summer of 2012. After graduation, he has already been accepted into NAU's Masters program and he will begin his program of study in the fall of 2016. He has lived in Flagstaff most of his life and hopes to find a career locally after graduating with a Masters of Sciences in Engineering sometime in 2017.

James' primary role in Tunnel Team A is rotor design with an emphasis on stress and force analysis of the rotor blades. James is from Phoenix, Arizona and choose to attend Norther Arizona University to learn about sustainable design and renewable energy.

Tyler Richards

Tunnel ME - Manufacturing Specialist

Tyler Richards is a mechanical engineering senior at Northern Arizona University. He has lived and attended NAU for the past 5 years. His main area of expertise on the CWC 16 project has been in the structural design of the tower and its components along with fabrication of the carbon fiber blades. His experience in fabrication and manufacturing ensured a strong and reliable structure.

Jess Robinson is an Electrical Engineering student originally from New York City. He currently lives in Phoenix, AZ, but will be working at Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, AZ soon after attending the Collegiate Wind Competition in New Orleans. Jess became interested in the CWC 2016 because of his interest in hobby projects involving the Arduino Uno microcontroller -- like games that involve blinking lights and buttons.
