Overview

The purpose of this project was to design, build and test the power stage of a motor controller for a high performance electric motorcycle. There have been two electric motorcycles built by our sponsor, Jim Corning, one that operates on AC and one that operates on DC. Currently, the AC model uses a controller that was designed for use in electric car conversions and is not optimized for use in an electric motorcycle. We were asked to work with Chris Yerger, an employee of Novakinetics and fellow electrical engineering student, to design and test the three-phase power inverter for the AC motorcycle.
