Solutions

Working together with Dr. Eaves, we have envisioned a solution of a mobile application that can assist pregnant women with opioid use disorder by taking aspects of recovery out of the physical space and into the mobile. This application will provide a safe, virtual space for pregnant women in recovery, while allowing these women to remain completely anonymous. It aims to bring these women together for social support, and allow them to learn and ask questions about pregnancy and recovery in a judgement free space. As traveling to multiple appointments every day, dealing with a lack of social support, and possibly facing stigma from those who are aware of the recovery situation can be difficult for women in recovery, iMATer can serve as a mobile place where women can manage their recovery. Women will sign up for this application using a pseudonym so they may remain anonymous. The chatroom feature provides a easy-to-access and readily available source of social support from women who are going through the same recovery and pregnancy process. The information desk forum connects pregnant women in recovery to medical professionals who can address their pregnancy concerns, which saves them the time it takes to travel to a prenatal care clinic to ask questions in person. These features aim to reduce the struggles that pregnant women in recovery face on a day-to-day basis. To use this application, women will receive a code over the phone from Dr. Eaves or another official administrator. They will then download the app and enter the code upon first opening of the app. Ideally, our solution will be implemented on both iOS and Android, so this app will be able to reach more women.
