This year the Pacific Southwest Conference was held at California State University, Los Angeles between March 23rd-26th. Eighteen schools from Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada competed in the conference. The main competition at the conference is the concrete canoe competition which tests undergraduate students ability to design and construct a concrete canoe. The categories for judging are: final product, design paper, oral presentation, and the canoe races.
As the rigors of competition increased this year the Ponderosa was recognized as a top competitor at conference. The team was informed by the judges that the display was used as a template for other schools to see what areas they made an error in. The judges told the team that they were very impressed with the NAU concrete canoe but unfortunately had a few minor errors that dropped the team’s overall placements.
