Mini Baja
The design characteristics for the Mini Baja area will be as follows:

  • Hill Climb
    • Loose dirt (no cinders)
    • 60% max slope
    • No turns
    • Approximately 40 ft in length
  • Rock Crawl
    • 3-6 ft diameter rocks
    • 40-60 % grade
    • Approximately 40 ft in length
  • Maneuverability
    • 6 ft wide
    • some abrupt elevation changes
    • ¼ mile long max
  • Straight Section
    • 100-150 ft long
    • No turns
    • Level grade

Hill Climb
The hill climb area will be incorporated into the maneuverability course.  Fill will be placed on top of the existing hill and soil will be cut at the base in order to obtain a steeper slope.  The geometrics of the site will not allow the 60% slope which was requested.

Maneuverability Course
The maneuverability course is designed to test the turning, climbing, and overall agility of the mini Baja vehicle.  It consists of tight turns (15 ft radius), uphill and downhill sections, and a section with moguls.  The total course length is 720 ft.  See Fig. 2.

The moguls will be on a 60 ft straight section of the maneuverability course.  They will consist of small mounds of dirt placed 10 ft on center.  Fig. 3 shows a detailed profile of the mogul section.

Typical highway design computations were used to design the cross section of the course.  A standard 2% slope on either side of a centerline crown was used in the straight sections.  See Fig. 4.

Super elevated sections were also calculated using typical highway design standards.

Rock Crawl
The rock crawl area will be part of Phase III.  Detailed design considerations will not be given at this time.  The proposed location is to the west of the OWTP.  There is a hillside that would suit this purpose.

Straight Section
The proposed straight section is desired to test the acceleration characteristics of the mini Baja vehicles.  It will run on the existing road outside the OWTP North of the north fence.

Cost Estimate
The cost for the construction of the mini Baja area will be in earthwork.  Cut and fill quantities will be calculated.  Total cost will be based on a per cubic yard basis.
