Capstone Project

Project Description

Our project aims to design and implement an automated soil dust collection and characterization system utilizing machine vision methods to improve the study and analysis of valley fever, an infectious disease caused by coccidia fungi. Currently, collecting soil dust samples to analyze the distribution of valley fever is an inefficient task. The project proposes an innovative solution that will use portable mini-wind tunnels to actively stir the soil, thereby collecting soil dust. At the same time, the Raspberry PI and high-resolution imaging sensors were used to record the soil dust morphology in real time. The main goal of the project is to improve the efficiency and accuracy of soil sample collection in valley fever research. By introducing automated soil dust collection and characterization systems that replace traditional manual collection methods, the speed and quality of sample collection can be significantly improved. In addition, the system can record the morphology of soil dust in real time, providing researchers with more detailed and accurate data.
