The scope of this project is to design, build, and test a system for simulating vascular defects and vessel branches, using non-biologic materials and testing micro catheter deployment under fluoroscopy. The system must simulate the vessel size and complexity (tourtuosity) of the main brain vessels of the circle of Willis (CW).
The final product has been successfully connected to the flow system, pressure tests showed leaking between the CoW and the outlet manifold. The team will repair the leaks and deliver the final product to our client ready to be used for testing of his new liquid embolic. Testing also showed reactivity between the circle and the head gel causing the clarity to be reduced after long term exposure. To midigate this problem, the head gel will be kept separate unless testing is underway.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Timothy Becker, David Trevas, and Amy Swartz for their continued support and advice throughout the project. We would also like to thank ATI, and W.L. Gore and associates for the funding they provided for the project.
