"My name is Allison Cutler and I am a mechanical engineering honors student with a minor in biology at Northern Arizona University. I have been working on Undergraduate Research for the past year with a faculty advisor to determine the best way to incorporate tolerances into an introduction to engineering drawings and CAD design course (called ME180). This research includes learning about tolerances, where I then determine what aspects of tolerances are important to teach in this course, compile that information into a lecture, and present that lecture to multiple sections of ME180. I follow the lecture with a homework assignment and questionnaire I created, and I evaluate these to determine the students’ level of understanding. I then modify the lecture based on feedback and repeat. The goal of this research is to alter the curriculum of the class in order to improve student’s quality of learning. I lectured at Xi’an University of Science and Technology in Xi’an, China as part of my research. I am also a teaching assistant for ME180. When I am not in school, I am working as a part-time associate at W.L. Gore & Associates. I constantly seek areas of improvement and wish to keep learning even after I graduate, but I hope to travel and explore the world before continuing my education."
