Overview
Willed by Kenneth Walker, an educator and amateur astronomer in Holbrook, AZ. In 2001, the dome and telescope were moved from their original location to DeMiguel Elementary School in Flagstaff, AZ. The observatory foundation was constructed entirely with donations and volunteer labor.
Since its reconstruction, rotation of the dome and the shutter system have been problematic. The main objective of this project was to have a safe, easy to operate observatory that can continue to enrich the lives of young children wanting to learn Astronomy. This capstone project refurbished the 40 year old observatory to ensure it can be used for another 40 years and beyond.
