Current Efforts:
|
April: |
April has been a busy month for DFL. We have
given all three final design presentations including Capstone and
the competition down in Raytheon Missile Systems. Our final
chosen solution, The Hogg, did not win the competition due to
logistical reasons but the US Air force and Raytheon were both
impressed with the design. We are currently working on the
final report due May 5, and will be sending a copy to Raytheon for
review. In all the project has been a fun learning experience
and DFL has a new found appreciation for the education we are
getting at NAU. Finally we would like to thank Raytheon and
the US Air Force for sponsoring the project and hope they bring more
senior projects in the future. |
March: |
On March 9th we gave our design review presentation
and submitted the design review report. We have everything
modeled and are currently finding the means to manufacture the
hardware. The final design has undergone a slew of changes to
enhance the feasibility of implementation. We hope to have
fully functional prototypes by the second week in April. |
February: |
We have chosen the design through the use of the
decision matrix. The design is currently undergoing a detailed
assessment of its strengths and flaws. We will start
finalizing the details of the design and have the solution modeled
so that prototypes can be made. We are currently working on
the design review presentation. Our chosen solution and other
concepts will be presented along with the justification for our
decision. |
January: |
School is in and we have completed most of the testing we
proposed. We found that the locking mechanism does have some
flaws but the indicator proved to perform without fail. We are
currently building our decision matrix and compiling the list of
possible solutions. Since our most current tests have given us
the most information to think about we are debating how to proceed
at this point. Our next step is to pick a solution and have
prototypes developed for initial testing. Stay tuned!

December: |
December flew by and the team is ready for the new year.
We gave our proposal presentation and have begun testing the
hardware. Most of the hardware should be modeled by the start
of classes in January and hopefully we can start modeling our design
shortly thereafter. |
November: |
Currently we are working on our design proposal. We have
addressed the problem and have formulated a plan of attack. In
reviewing the information Raytheon has presented us we have prepared a list
of tests that need to be performed and created a schedule to complete these
tests. Upon completion of these tests we will formulate a solution
that best conforms to the requirements set forth by Raytheon and the U.S.
Air Force. |
