Project problem


The Heart Bytes team is working with a Mechanical Engineering capstone project in order to develop a stent crimper for W.L. Gore & Associates. The Heart Bytes team is responsible for making the electrical hardware for the machine. 

As the Electrical engineering team, we have to provide a solution to this project by designing an electrical control system to operate the stent. This will be, mainly about designing the gore crimp, along with its appropriate sensors and motors.

Requirements of the project


General Requirements

The device will be using an iris crusher mechanism.In addition the device must have a graphical user interface to display information. Furthermore the device will draw power from the wall for general usage.

Safety Standards Requirements

Warning labels in accordance with OSHA 1915.16. Electric shock warning in accordance with OSHA 1910.137. Emergency stop button in accordance with ISO 13850:2016. Pinch point guard in accordance with OSHA 1910.212.

Team Objective 

Our project assignment is to create a medical stent that can be used for heart operations in order to cure heart diseases. As the Electrical engineering team, we have to provide a solution to this project by designing an electrical control system to operate the stent. This will be, mainly about designing the gore crimp, along with its appropriate sensors and motors. Expected system architecture  of  the device can be seen below.
