Automated Isotope Valve

Testing and Final Design

Project Testing

Initially, our client planned to test our final design by taking our team to a location about an hour away from Flagstaff. We would test the communication system by using a mobile hotspot and a laptop similar to the prototyping done. The valve would be tested by powering on the analyzer instrument and taking real-time samples. However, due to quarantine, the field testing was skipped. Our team had completed the full design on schedule per our client's planned testing date sometime in April.

Final Design

Our team's final design consisted of constructing all three subsystems on top of a 400lb capacity gardening cart for easy transportation for our client. The side and bottom of the gardening cart were reinforced with plywood with a shelf on the rear to accomodate the high-capacity gas tank and gas generator. The UPS was added next to the generator to act as a thermal buffer. our client's analyzer instrument, our team's valve, and her vaccuum pumps can fit near the front of the cart. This allows easy connection of tubing. A photo of the final design is not provided as our team was unable to obtain photographs prior to the Stay-At-Home policies.
