Wi-Fi Interactive Mapping
A
Northern Arizona University Capstone Project
Detailed Design Phase
In
the first semester the first thing the team did was define the problem and the
requirements then gathered information. After gathering information we started
brain storming ideas and then the team did some research for the project. After
the team has done their research, the team developed their ideas and tested
them. After explaining our ideas to Dr. Venkatraman
he helped us decide to use the Android system. It was easier than Apple and
using hardware.
In
this semester we started programming. The first applications we built were
simple Hello World. Applications, the type of thing you do when first learning
a new programing language. After that we started getting more advance with a
GUI screen. The team has modified the original code of google maps in order to
display the current location of the user. The team was able to get the
application to display the current location of the users.
Decisions |
Why? |
Chose Android Software to write
the project application |
1- It is free 2- Recommended by our technical
adviser because it is easier to get the application to be approved for publishing
as well as easier than using hardware 3- Recommended by Ms. Julie Heynssens |
VoIP and SIP |
1- Allows users communicate through
a Wi-Fi 2- Be able to assign voice sub group
commination 3- Able to hear all the voice
conversations 4- Disconnect or connect any user
for any subgroup |
Using software is easier than
using hardware |
1-
Recommended
by Dr. Sheryl Howard, Dr. Venkatraman, and Prof. Heynessens |
The
team has faced a real problem with the android application so the team were
trying to find some help on how to use the VoIP and SIP using Android Software
so the team has asked the following
1- Dr. Niranjan Venkatraman.
He cannot help us with Java
2-
Dr. James Palmer. He told us to ask Dr. Steve Jacobs because James Palmer
cannot help us with android
3-
Dr. Steve Jacobs told us he is still learning but he told us he can get
our team in contact with his capstone team because his capstone team is
currently working on an android application.
