Our work has focused on two main areas: charging devices and control systems. For charging devices, we are testing a brushless motor with a microcontroller to retrieve power, voltage and RPM values. Our electrical engineering team will be doing the tests with a mechanical engineering team. From the values that we acquire, we will construct power curves in order to see how efficient the generator will be towards our target area. Our target area is post-disaster emergency aid. The information gained from the power curves is also critical in designing how external devices will be charged. For control systems, we have created a preliminary brake circuit diagram on PSpice that, when used, will stop our electronics and brake our wind turbine’s blades at desired times. Our team has been doing research on AC-DC rectifiers to find the optimal current conversion circuitry. We also created a control systems independent study that will be directed towards developing optimal control algorithms.
