We must deisgn the controls and charging systems of a small wind turbine, icluding testing 2 motors, finding optimal control algorithms for the system, design a system load to regulate voltage, and create a dynamic breaking system for the turbine, so it may range in wind speeds from 0-17mph.
Wind Turbine dimension: 17.7 in (45 cm) length, width, height
Any auxiliary parts must fit within 45 cm of the vertical centerline of the mounting flange.
Use of the given motor for the turbine system (Electrifly AMMO 28-56-1530kV)
The wind turbine must produce power above the cut-in speed and below the cutout speed for 5 full minutes. This includes faults detected by observation during operation that don’t cause a detected fault or a loss of ability to produce power such as high vibration, cracks, loss of parts or pieces of parts or other problems detectable by visual observation.
The predicted power curve must be within 1% precision.
The minimum turbine power output is 10W for at least one wind speed (whole number 1 m/s intervals) from 5 – 14 m/s.
The wind turbine must withstand continuous wind of 17m/s.
Desired maximum power of 70 W.
The shutdown process must be completed within 10 seconds.
Shutdown is defined as full stop or less than 10% of the rated RPM with no power going to the load.
Our wind turbine is desired to operate in the outside temperature range of 30-75 degrees Fahrenheit and will be reliable in handling any humidity level.
The use of capacitors are only allowed if and only if they start out at zero state at the beginning of the test and if not used as a buld energy storage.
The ONLY battery that is allowed to be used for the system is (2) 3V 250 mAh button cell battery to power a microcontroller.
