The ADXL323 is a 3-axis micro electromechanical system (MEMS) type accelerometer. The advantages of the ADXL326 are low cost, an operating temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and low voltage supply. The MSP430G2553 is a 20 pin electronic chip small yet capable of meeting the needs of the electronic control system. Features that make the MSP430 an ideal microcontroller for the MR damper control system are: on chip 10 bit analog to digital converter (ADC) with 8 channels, low power consumption, an operating temperature range between -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and low cost. The tools used to program, interface, and test the electronic control system were Code Composer Studio to program the microcontroller, Putty terminal to output the results to the screen, evaluation boards for the ADXL and MSP430, and a digital multimeter to confirm that the output readings were correct.
