In today's fast-evolving world, secure, efficient, and tactical communications have become crucial for defence, public safety, and intelligence. StratoSplit is proud to be working with General Dynamics Missions System (GDMS), a leading defense contractor, to develop an innovative solution.
GDMS provides mission-critical products and systems, including the renowned Rescue 21 System, which enables the Coast Guard to locate people and vessels in distress. Their innovative solutions support critical operations across a wide range of sectors.
Team StratoSplit has been tasked with developing a separation of cloud-generated audio streams. This consists of using FFMPEG to generate cloud-based streams that will be multicasted to a web application running MongoDB, Express, React, and NodeJS (MERN). The web application will allow operators to select the audio stream they wish to listen to, and the audio will be played back in real-time with the ability to use spatial audio to determine the direction of the audio source.
The following diagram shows the current interface supported by GDMS:
In contrast to GDMS solution, our application will be cloud-based based allowing for the application to be accessible from anywhere and any machine. Due to developing a web application, the application will also be available on any machine with a web browser. This will allow the application to be used on a wider range of devices and operating systems. Lastly, we will develop an innovative approach to spatial audio. With the current system, each audio stream needs its speaker. This will be changed so only a pair of headphones will be needed or only a couple of speakers will be needed for spatial audio.
The following diagram shows our proposed solution:
The inital concept for this project was specified by GDMS through the document below:
