Spanish is spoken by over 400 million people and is represented as an official language globally in 21 nations with a diverse network of dialects. Often times, students are unable to learn these distinct dialects as they are unable to gain first person exposure through travel.
The Hola Mundo team created a site that overcomes this challenge by creating a crowd sourced, e-learning website where students are able to learn from customized content created by instructors.
Content in the site will focus on interviews from native speakers of the varying dialects and comprehension based materials focused on listening skills. Users will be able to learn from their home country whether they are based in rural Europe or the Asian continent.
The project will maintain an emphasis on crowd sourced materials created, developed, and maintained by individual instructors. The learning site provides users, both teacher and student, a straightforward user interface so as to create an experience where the frustrations of adapting to a new tool are removed so they are able to focus on the learning experience regardless of technical ability. This will ensure the comprehension of material given in the courses created by instructors.
