Task 1: Background Research
This task will involve researching and reviewing
previous Road Safety Assessments and obtaining recent crash data at the project intersections. The understanding of previous Road Safety Assessments and
crash data will ensure that a feasible solution is determined and that
it meets the necessary requirements.
Task 1.1: Review Previous RSAs
Task 1.2: Obtain Previous Crash Data
Task 2: Site Visit
This task will involve visiting both project
intersections to understand the current up-to-date conditions of the
intersections. An assessment and analysis of the existing infrastructure, including geometry, ped/bike facilities, and signal timing, of the
project sites will be conducted.
Task 2.1: Drone Survey
Task 2.2: Existing Geometry
Task 2.3: Pedestrian and Bike Facilities
Task 2.4: Overall Safety Analysis
Task 2.5: Signal Timing Analysis
Task 3: Traffic Studies
Task 3.1 & 3.3: Traffic Volume Study (Fall/Winter)
Task 3.2 & 3.4: Pedestrian Count Study (Fall/Winter)
Task 3.3 & 3.6: Bike and Multimodal Use Study (Fall/Winter)
Task 3.6: Crash Data Analysis
In this task, a series of traffic studies will
be conducted to collect traffic-related data at the project intersections. This data will be used to assess the current peak-hour operations
of the intersections and identify potential safety risks.
Task 4: Generate Alternatives
This task will consist of compiling results from
completed research and traffic studies at the project intersections to generate
proposed safety alternatives that could be implemented. A decision matrix will be used to evaluate and rank the proposed alternatives.
Task 4.1: Analyze Traffic Study Results
Task 4.2: Brainstorm Potential Alternatives
Task 4.3: Crash Modification Factors
Task 4.4: Decision Matrix
Task 4.5: Short/Medium/Long Term Recommendations
Task 5: RSA Report
Task 5.1: Finalize Recommendations
Task 5.2: Compile all Studies, Data, and Alternatives
This task will consist of compiling the
previously completed work to build a complete Road Safety Assessment Report.
Task 6: Project Impacts
This task will consist of identifying and
analyzing the impacts this project will have on the world around us including
the Environmental, Economic, and Social Impacts that are likely to be seen.
Task 6.1: Environmental Impacts
Task 6.2: Economic Impacts
Task 6.3: Social Impacts
Task 7: Project Deliverables
Task 7.1: 30% Report
Task 7.2: 60% Report
Task 7.3: 90% Report
Task 7.4: Final Report
Task 7.5: Project Website
The following tasks are deliverables associated with the CENE
486 class and will be submitted by their respective deadlines.
Task 8: Project Management
Task 8.1: Resource Management
Task 8.2: Team Meetings
Task 8.3: Client and TA Meetings
Task 8.4: GI Meetings
Task 8.5: Schedule Management
This task will consist of necessary sub-tasks that will help
plan, coordinate, and monitor the progress of the project. This task will also ensure that the project meets quality standards and is completed on time.
