RESULTS
The competition was judged using 5 different judging catefories and 8 different awards. Tje 5 differenct categories were Aesthetics, Construction Economy, Structural Efficiency, Cost Estimation and Overall Performance. The Construction Economy category helped judged for the Construction Economy award and the Construction Speed award; which considered the time it took the team to build the bridge, with what number of builders, and any additional load test penalties. The Structural Efficiency category helped judge for the Structural Efficiency, Lightness, and Stiffness awards; which considered deflections, overall bridge weight, and any additional load test penalties. The Estimated Cost award compared what each team estimated their bridge to cost with what it actually did and Overall Performance award conisdered scores from each of the other categories.
~ During the Aesthetic competiton, the team displayed their bridge alongside a poster. The team received first place in aesthetics.
~ The Construction Economy part required the team to assemble the bridge in less than 45 minutes. The team utilized the 45 minutes allowed and were allowed 5 more minutes to fix any of the items that they were penalized for.
~ The Strutural Efficiency included a sway test of 50 lbs. and a vertical test of 2,500 lbs. The team passed the sway test, though they were disqualified at 1,900 lbs due to the sway exceeding the 1 inch safety limit.
