This project is a continuation of a previous CENE486C capstone team that designed a new truck access road in the Nestle Purina Site in Flagstaff, AZ. This project will require designing a large retaining wall for stabilization with a cut up to 25 feet in depth. The design must be drafted as a concrete or masonry reinforced retaining wall in conjunction with the site design worked on from a previous Purina Capstone Team. The wall design must meet City of Flagstaff requirements, facilitate proper drainage function, and be structurally suitable based on soil characteristics. The Purina facility is located on the east side of Flagstaff, Arizona and is accessed via Industrial Drive and E. Nestle Purina Ave., near the intersection of Interstate 40 and Country Club Road. Geotechnical, structural, and hydraulic/hydrologic technical analyses will be required. The potential challenge would be the extreme lateral soils presented in designing such a large retaining wall and the stakeholders would be Nestle Purina and the City of Flagstaff.
