Decision Matrix Justification

Only headwater elevation and downstream velocities calculated from CulvertMaster were used in the decision matrix. Control type and flow regime were recorded for design information only. Flow rate was used to determine if the culvert was undersized. An undersized culvert will not be able to convey the entire storm event, as seen in the corrected effective culvert.

Alternative #1

- Water surface elevation meets 100 year water surface elevation, but this alternative had the highest water surface elevation
- This alternative had the second highest downstream velocity

Alternative #2

- Water surface elevation meets 100 year water surface elevation, and this alternative had the lowest water surface elevation
- This alternative had the highest downstream velocity

Alternative #3

- Water surface elevation meets 100 year water surface elevation, and this alternative had the second lowest water surface elevation
- This alternative had the lowest downstream velocity

Alternative #1

This alternative is the least expensive.

Alternative #2

This alternative is the second most expensive option

Alternative #3

This alternative is the most expensive due to the cost of the wing walls.

All cost was estimated from the ADOT Historical Bid Tabulations in Arizona.
