The team must meet the deadlines set by their capstone instructors.
The work done towards designing the canoe must be properly recorded and organized into the deliverables.
The team must follow the constraints set in the Request for Proposal (RFP) released by the Concrete Canoe Competition Committee.
The team must meet the deadlines stated in the RFP to compete in the competition.
The team must follow the social distancing guidelines set by the CDC along with those required by NAU.
The team included the restrictions due to COVID-19 in their safety binder which is closely followed by all participants.
The major tasks of the project are listed below. For the full task list, refer to the Final Proposal on the Documents page.
Task 1: Enhanced Focus Areas
Enhanced Focus Areas are new to the competition this year in an effort to adhere to the COVID-19 restrictions. The team is challenged to decide on two specific items that they wish to focus on throughout the duration of their project.
Task 2: Mix Design
This task includes mix design research and testing. The final part of this task is finalizing the concrete mix that will be used in the final design report.
Task 3: Hull Design
This task includes hull design research and analysis. The final part of this task is finalizing the hull design that will be used in the final design report.
Task 4: Reinforcement
This task includes researching and testing the primary mesh reinforcement to be used in the final canoe.
Task 5: Structural Design
The structural calculations completed follow the load cases specified in the RFP provided to the team by C4.
Task 6: Conference
The team competed in the Pacific Southwest Conference in the Spring of 2021. The overall competition score is made up of the technical proposal, enhanced focus areas report, the presentation, and on-site competition.
Task 7: Construction Methods Testing
This task includes testing new innovative methods of construction for future teams to benefit from.
Task 8: Impacts
The team will assess the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the project.

Seven staffing positions were determined necessary for successful project completion.
The team used the staffing positions and the scope tasks to estimate the hours necessary to complete each task.
