Project Tasks
Outlined in the following table are the necessary tasks that need to be completed for the completion of the project. More detailed descriptions of the of the tasks are available in the Document Archive under the Project Proposal. Project exclusions include water sampling and core soil sampling on site.
Task | Description |
1.0 Work Plan | The work plan will detail the Sampling and Analysis Plan used to collect and analyze soil along with the Health and Safety Plan. |
1.1 Sampling and Analysis Plan | The Sampling and Analysis plan details the process the process that will be outlined and followed for the collection of soil samples on site and their subsequent analyses. |
1.2 Health and Safety Plan | The Health and Safety plan details hazrads that may be encountere during the sampling and analysis of the soil samples. |
2.0 Field Sampling | The field sampling will follow the methods outlined in the Sampling and Analysis Plan. |
3.0 Analysis | Analysis will be carried out as described in the Sampling and Analysis Plan and includes the following tasks (3.1-3.5). |
3.1 Dry Sieve Analysis | Samples will be dry sieved according to the Sampling and Analysis Plan. |
3.2 X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)Analysis | XRF analysis will be utilized to determine contaminants of concern and will follow the procedures outlined in the sampling and analysis plan. |
3.3 Acid Digestion | Acid digestion will be utilized to prepare soil samples for the flame atomic absorption analysis and will follow the methods outlined in the Sampling and Analysis Plan. |
3.4 Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS) Analysis | Samples prepared during acid digestion will be sent to external labs for FAAS analysis where concentrations of contaminats will be determined. |
3.5 XRF and FAAS Correlation | After completion of XRF and FAAS analyses, a correlation will be drawn in order to check the accuracy of the XRF data. Contaminat migration will then be mapped at the Signal Mill site. |
4.0 Risk Assessment | Risk assessment encompasses a human health risk assessment and an ecological risk assessment. Each are described in their respective subtask. |
4.1 Human Health Risk Assessment | To complete the human health risk assessmnet four items need to be completed. The four items include hazard identification, exposure assessment, toxicity assessment, and risk characterization. |
4.2 Ecological Risk Assessment | Ecological risk assessment is the process of determining how likely it is that an environmental stressor may affect the natural world, and the signifigance of those effects. This is done in thre phases: problem formulation, risk analysis, and risk characterization. |
5.0 Project Impacts | Project impacts will be asess with regard to the environment and health, along with the soical and economic impacts that will arise from the results of the preliminary assessment and site investigation. |
6.0 Project Management | Project management are items that support the orginization and completion of the project. |
6.1 Project Coordination | Project coordination is outlined in tasks 6.1.1 through 6.1.3. |
6.1.1 Meetings | To ensure the appropriate development of the project meetings wil occur on a weekly basis amongst team members. Client and technical advisor meetings will be held for progression updates as well as for technical advise. A record of meeting minutes and agendas will be kept. |
6.1.2 Correspondence | Correspondence is kept through email, phone, and in-person communication between team members, grading instructors, technical advisors, and the client. |
6.1.3 Schedule Management | Schedule management will be maintained through the use of Google calander. |
6.2 Deliverables | Deliverables are the required outputs for the CENE 486 capstone course. |
6.2.1 Website | A website will be created that is not available to the public that serves as a comprehensive record of the project. |
6.2.2 Final Presentation | The team will give a presentation at Northern Arizona University's Undergraduate Symposium (UGRADS) on April 26, 2019. |
6.2.3 Preliminary Assessment/Site Investigation (PA/SI) Final Report | The PA/SI report is the final output for the project, detailing all aspects of the Signal Mill investigation. |
6.2.3.1 30% Deliverable | This deliverable corresponds to 30% completion of the PA/SI report. |
6.2.3.2 60% Deliverable | This deliverable corresponds to 60% completion of the PA/SI report. |
6.2.3.3 Final PA/SI Report | This deliverable is the final and complete PA/SI report. |
