Bricks are a form of earthen structure that are constructed by ramming a mixture of selected aggregates into flat panels called then drying them under the sun. Bricks can only be classified as adobe when adding a percent of lime or cement into to the soil mixture. However, this project will only focus on adobe bricks that contains specific amount of cement in the mix soil design that will be determined later on through brick testing.
The objective of this project is to develop a good strategy in constructing suitable Adobe bricks for Northern Arizona, using local material. And, since, the state of Arizona does not currently have its own sets of codes and constraints concerning adobe brick design, this project will adopt the international building code requirements and adjust them slightly to develop new set of cods and constraints that is suitable for Northern Arizona’s environment.
