Project Information:

Field Evaluation:

Observed Problematic Areas:

The first part of the riparian habitat assessment of Coyote Springs reach in Flagstaff, Arizona, is the site visit. AARK Stream Restoration, LLC. visited the site more than once and observed some areas of the reach and identified it as problematic areas of Coyote Springs reach. Below are some of the areas:

Hydrology & Hydraulics

Watershed Delineation:

To start analyzing the stream reach at Coyote Springs estate in Flagstaff, Arizona, flow contributing to the reach must be determined. AARK Stream Restoration, LLC decided to follow Coconino County Design Manual to use Coconino County Rational method to determine the runoff flow over the watershed area correspond to Coyote Springs estate. Here are the results:

Channel & Culvert Analysis:

After determining the flows from watershed delineation and the slope of the channel using “Rosgen Level 2” which can be found in the Final Report, AARK Stream Restoration, LLC analyzed the 3 culverts in the stream the channel using Bentley CulvertMaster and Bentley FlowMaster. Here is the results:

HEC-RAS :

AARK Stream Restoration, LLC have created a HEC-RAS model for the existing Coyote Springs reach. The model results and inturbetation can be found in the Final Report.

Final Proposed Alternative:

Implement O&M Plan:

AARK Stream Restorations, LLC proposes to subcontract the tasks for cleaning and maintaining the Coyote Springs area. The Museum of Northern Arizona maintains the Colton House property itself, but not the well house and stream area. There are local botanical businesses that are available for hire to work in the area with the City of Flagstaff’s approval. More information can be found in the Final Report.

Alter Downstream Area:

After conducting the hydrology and hydraulics, and complete the riparian habitat assessment, AARK Stream Restoration, LLC recommends alteration of the downstream area where the matting exist to maintain energy in the stream and lower sedimentation movement. Here is the results:
