Project Understanding
Project Information
The goal of this project is to create a Residential Drop-Off Center (RDC) for the Cinder Lake Landfill. The purpose of the RDC design is to promote the safety of Flagstaff residents who enter the landfill to dispose of their waste. Due to the elevated working face, high speed winds are present onsite which creates the possibility of high profile vehicles tipping. This leaves a potential of injury for all users. Therefore, the implementation of the RDC will enhance the safety of the residential and commercial users by creating a separated location for residents to dispose of their waist. The complete design will consist of a retention wall, six 40 roll-off bins, a grading and drainage plan, traffic plan, benefit cost analysis, and design/construction costs.
-
Site Background
- Provides services to 90,000 residents of Flagstaff Coconino County residents daily
- Life expectancy to 2054 with a thirty year rehabilitation period
- Schultz fire has created greater offsite runoff which must be kept separated from onsite flow.
-
Project Constraints
-
Hydrology
- Our project must regulate discharge to ensure that all offsite and onsite runoff is serviced without effecting the flow of traffic.
-
Area of RDC
- We must optimize our design within the constrained area of 2.5 acres.
-
Trees
- Pine trees with a diameter of 16” or greater cannot be removed without probable cause.
-
Culverts
- Possible resizing of culverts.
-
Entrance
- Maintain same entrance.
