1 Hit Wonders Inc.

1 Hit Wonders, Inc. (1HWI) are a group of Northern Arizona Civil Engineering students who were given the task to successfully complete the design and testing of a pre-stress concrete beam for the PCI Big Beam 2013 contest.

1HWI worked directly with a PCI producer member, who supplied building materials, professional guidance, and cast the beam. The beam was shipped to the team, who will test the beam for strength and deflection.

Our Goal

The goal of the PCI Big Beam Competition is to create a concrete beam within restricted criteria. The competition seeks to educate students in prestressed concrete design in an effort to develop future structural engineers. The precast concrete industry continues to seek innovation in beam design, and competitions such as the PCI Big Beam challenge helps fuel innovation.
