Objective 2 –Determine PPS Characteristics

Specified characteristics of PPS will be determined by Wolf Engineering in NAU laboratories and subcontracted material testing firms as necessary.  Testing methods will be obtained from literature reviews of relevant procedures.  The following characteristics of PPS from SCA Tissue, with and without amendments, will be investigated:

Task 2 – Determine previously studied characteristics of PPS through a review of previous CLL studies and available literature.  Results of this literature review will be presented in a final report along with an analysis of the validity of study data and methods.

Task 3 – Determine appropriate laboratory procedures and equipment for testing PPS. Existing testing methods and equipment will be identified through additional literature review, American Society of Testing Methods (ASTM) and Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) method review.  New procedures and equipment will be designed when no existing methods are available.  A review of laboratory procedures and equipment used to analyze PPS will be included in a final report.

Task 4 – Analyze the PPS currently used at CLL using laboratory procedures and equipment identified in Task 3 and 4.  The analyses will model processes now occurring inside the landfill and aid in the formulation of a composite alternative landfill cap.  A discussion of analyzed PPS characteristics will be included in a final report, along with all generated data found through testing.
