PDB Output Analyzer

Within the Flight Management Systems (FMS) product there are several simple DB’s that are created using a tool called PDB. These DB’s are primarily used for the Performance (aircraft performance) and TOLD (Take Off and Landing) functional aspects of an FMS. The data in these DB’s is proprietary and non-disclosure agreements will be required for this project.

FMS needs a tool that will manage these DB files and their content. The tool will have the ability to extract data elements and place them into a master repository. The tool will then be configured to do analysis of data within the master repository to determine if the data is out of control. In all cases the tool can read the DB files and provide a user friendly interface to be able to view the data. The tool should be configurable such that new DB types or kinds of analysis can be preformed without modifying the tool.

Knowledge, skills, and expertise:

• General software engineering skills.
• Complex system architecture development.
• C++/.NET/ASP/JAVA development.
• Web application development using advanced scripting languages.
• Database access mechanisms used in web applications.
• Possible need for some SQL experience.

Equipment Requirements:

Students will need access to software development stations. Note: This must be a zero cost project. Students will be expected to perform the development of the tool on their own or University equipment.

Deliverables:

The student team will be expected to propose and deliver:

• An acceptable solution to the problem in the form of a final software package that works correctly with Internet Explorer on the Windows XP platforms.
• Demonstrations and working upgrades in regular increments, well-designed and documented code, and user/programmer documentation.

All documentation should be supplied in Microsoft Word format and should be made available via a group web site.
