Evaporation from open canals represents a significant loss of water, particularly in arid regions like Arizona. This project aims to quantify the rate of evaporation from canals and evaluate the effectiveness of shading as a mitigation strategy. Specifically, we will investigate how shading at different heights above the water surface can reduce evaporation rates, thereby contributing to more efficient water management and conservation..
