Our current final prototype utilizes a 6ft by 2ft by 2ft tank with an accompanying stand. This was used over the original design as the team managed to find a used tank for less than the cost of building one ourselves. The tank also came with a filter and pump setup to effectively clean the tank.
The lights being used on the tank are able to be switched to a blooming mode, night time mode, and full spectrum mode. This allows the plants to grow as usual as well as bloom if needed. The insulation on the sides and back of the design not only seal the gutters from leaking, but also reflect the light back into the enclosure.
The troughs along the top and bottom can hold 3 plants each with 5 troughs on each row. This gives the team a total of 30 plants in the design. The pump in the tank delivers water to the the rail across the top of the gutters. The water runs through the upper troughs and into the lower troughs. After running through the lower troughs, the water water drains back into the tank aerating the water.
