About the Project
Red Feather is a non profit organization committed to providing sustainable and affordable housing needs for members of the Hopi and Navajo tribes. The organization's original purpose was to build straw bale homes for tribe members, but have since moved to home repair and improvements.
The Navajo Generating Station in Page, AZ ceased operations in 2019. Prior to the shutdown, many residents of the local reservation were provided with cheap coal from the nearby coal mine. Now, residents are looking for an affordable way to heat their homes, while reducing the respiratory health issues associated with burning coal/wood in home.
