Why our project important
The reasons why our client hired us is because he believed that this project could be accomplished. Our client Dr. Yaramasu, did researches about this topic before he contacted the company SRP (our sponsor). He proposed them how this project could be accomplished and at the same time showed them proofs of how it could be done. SRP liked the idea and they decided to give money to sponsor our project. Because this project is not easy to build, Dr. Yaramasu decided to hire students to help him get this work done, so he hired us. We began the project by getting familiar with it, before we could build the widget or the prototype we first read some books and open sources. Then, we started doing simulations using MATLAB and Dspace. Finally, we began building our design applying everything that we have learned so far so we could later test it with the simulations that we were working earlier. There is a problem that needs to be solved because of the following reasons: First, there are not many charge stations for EV as of right now and it is expected that the annually sale of EV to increase dramatically in the next 5 years. Second, the charging time that it takes to fully charge the battery. For an EV it takes a while to charge the battery and the miles per range are not enough compared with regular cars, so if you are going for a road trip you will need to make few stops. Third and most important is that SRP wants to know how EV will impact the grid in the future, specially in the Phoenix area.
Trouble we meet
1.How to use the simulink
2.How to build the simulation
3.How to use the lab's tools
4.How to connect the wires
Trouble we solve
For the first trouble:We solved this problem by asking the professor and watching the software usage tutorial on the Internet.
For the second trouble:After we asked the professor, the professor gave us a demonstration example, let us make changes on it.
For the third trouble:We learned how to use these tools in our own explorations and after asking other members of the lab.
For the fourth truble:We explored how to connect according to our own design.
Future development
This has a lot of links with the scarcity of charging stations. Especially when the charging car runs out of power on the highway, it will be a very difficult problem if the charging station cannot be found. , so our sponsors are also very concerned about the layout of the power grid in the Phoenix area in the next five years.
