Biogeography of Microbial Communities

GenCode

GenCode is composed of five senior undergraduate students at Northern Arizona University participating in the Computer Science program Capstone Requirement. The team is lead by Michael Dwan and is mentored by Dr. Greg Caporaso.

Project

Microbial community analysis is a growing area of biological research area and frequently the subject of high-profile articles in scientific and popular literature. This project will systematically evaluate a series of metrics for analyzing changes across gradients in microbial communities. These methods will first be implemented in the QIIME software package, and subsequently tested on both simulated microbial community data and a collection of real data generated on the 454 and Illumina sequencing platforms.

Presentation and Poster Session

GenCode will be presenting at the UGRaDS conference on April 27th, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Room C. There will also be a poster session on April 27th, 2012 at 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM. We welcome anyone to show up and participate in our live demo.
