Steel Bridge Capstone

Project Summary

Truss-ty Engineering is working to design, construct and test a scaled steel bridge. This project one of NAU's Civil Engineering Capstone Projects, as well as part of the ASCE Student Steel Bridge Competition. To complete this project, Truss-ty Engineering will design a 1:10 scaled model of a bridge for Peterson Park that will connect trails over the Skunk River that runs through Story County, Iowa. The bridge will be modeled in RISA 3D where the design will be tested for stability and deflection. With a design fully developed, the bridge with then be fabricated by the team and taken the to the ASCE Steel Bridge Competition where it will be loaded, scored, and judged based on time of construction, weight, and lateral and vertical deflections.
